Belgium is an advanced industrialized country despite the lack of raw materials and energy sources except for electricity. Indeed, the country has 18 power stations and 7 of them are nuclear plants. This sector contributes to 22.3% in the composition of GDP.
Mining is one of the most important components of the Belgian sector, construction industry came in the second place, followed by chemical products, food and textile, paper and glass industry, shipbuilding and car assembly, leather and plastics manufacturing, petroleum and non-ferrous metals.
The service sector is the main component of the Belgian economy and contributes by 77.2% (2010) of GDP and employs around 73% of the total workforce which represent 4, 77 million people (2010). The services composing this sector are trade, transportation, telecommunications and financial services and real estate, rent and services for companies and public services as well as various other services.
